Harrison Cheney

Sons & Daughters | San Francisco, CA

September 2026

Growing up in England, Harrison Cheney always wanted to be a chef. In high school, he jumped into the industry and spent time as a caterer and cook, working in a hotel as part of his secondary education program. When his family moved from London to Cornwall, Cheney got a job as a dishwasher at a local pub, developing an admiration for the raucous energy of the kitchen. In college, he started working at The Headland Hotel in Newquay, but left to join the team at The Square in London. There, Cheney embraced the opportunity to work with local, seasonal products and learned how to stay organized in Chef Phil Howard's intense, fine-dining kitchen. After working his way up to junior sous chef, he traveled throughout Scandinavia before landing at Gastrologik in Sweden, where he trained under Chefs Jacob Holmström and Anton Bjuhr, built relationships with nearby farmers, and fell in love with New Nordic cuisine.

After stages at Fäviken and Geranium, he moved back to London to work at The Ledbury before heading to San Francisco as a sous chef at Quince. After a year, he returned to Gastrologik in the same role. When the pandemic hit, Cheney stuck with the team and was eventually promoted to head chef, leading the kitchen and working closely with Holmström to develop new dishes.

At the end of 2022, Cheney moved back to San Francisco and joined Chef Teague Moriarty's Sons & Daughters as chef de cuisine. A few months later, he was promoted to executive chef. Since then, the restaurant has garnered two Michelin stars and moved into a new space in the Mission District. At Sons & Daughters, Cheney brings New Nordic cuisine to the California landscape, showcasing thoughtful fermentation and preservation techniques alongside hyper-local and seasonal produce. Now a partner alongside Moriarty, Cheney is eager to support local farmers and create a positive environment for his staff that allows them to learn, grow, and hone their talents.
