For generations, Andrew Delgado’s family grew coffee in Honduras. But as the systems of trade exploited coffee farmers and forced them into unequal and increasingly unreliable partnerships, Delgado’s grandfather decided the business wasn’t worth the physical and financial toll. He sold the farm and the family legacy of coffee was lost. Then, Delgado met his wife, whose appetite for coffee rubbed off on him. After learning to use their Mr. Coffee, the couple took a trip to Guatemala. There, a life changing cup of coffee set Delgado on a new course, one that would lead him back to the forgotten family business.
Back home, Delgado opened a coffee shop of his own in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in 2014. When the shop closed, he joined the team at Finca La Huerta farm, where he learned to process, harvest, and roast coffee while helping promote their product. After three years at the farm, Delgado took some time off. A few months later, he moved to India to work alongside coffee expert Sherri Johns for the next year, teaching Adivasi tribe farmers new processing and roasting techniques.
When he returned, Delgado started working for a coffee exporter in Honduras, leading their educational programs during the pandemic before starting a farm of his own. Unfortunately, his crops were stolen, so Delgado packed up and moved to Pittsburgh to consult on a new cafe. Eventually, he decided to start a project of his own with his business partner, Dylan Thomas. Together, they launched Dynamic Coffee Roasters in 2022. Through the business, Delgado is prioritizing quality, education, and community by hosting cupping events, inviting other local roasters to use their facility, and advocating for the rights of coffee farmers across Honduras and throughout Latin America.
