The Rising Stars Mentor Award celebrates a chef who is most supportive of young cooks and most instrumental in aiding their career, both in and out of the kitchen. In each city, the Rising Stars Award winners vote by secret ballot for that city’s mentor chef.
2018 Portland Rising Stars: Chef Gabriel Rucker
Since arriving in Portland in 2003, Chef Gabriel Rucker (pictured Marcelle Crooks of Little Bird) has helped put Portland on the map as one of America’s great food cities. His kitchens have been a proving ground for countless cooks. And his impact and legacy will continue with the opening of his latest concept, Canard.
2018 Atlanta Rising Stars: Chef Hector Santiago
Chef Hector Santiago began cooking in 1988 in his native Puerto Rico, and has been a fixture of Atlanta dining for three decades. During Pura Vida’s 11-year run and during his time at the helm of Anne Quatrano’s Abbatoir, his kitchens were a proving ground for countless young chefs. His impact and legacy continue with the opening and proliferation of his re-imagined El Super Pan.
