Mark McKethan Brings Extensive Industry Experience As New Director Of Market and Distribution Management

WACO, Texas – As Balcones Distilling gears up for their most exciting year to date, which will include the highly-anticipated move into their new 65,000 square foot distillery and a significant increase in production capacity, the Texas whisky company today announced that Mark McKethan will join the team as the new Director of Market and Distribution Management.

"As our Company continues to grow and the availability of our award winning whiskies increases, we need to maintain the same high level of quality and attention we instill in our products to the selection of distributors that will represent us,” said Balcones Distilling President and Chief Operating Officer Keith Bellinger. “Mark brings a wealth of industry knowledge, both in the strategy of selecting the right distribution network and more importantly, in the execution of our efforts to address growing consumer demand for our products."

McKethan is experienced at increasing brand exposure and developing strategies to grow businesses into efficient high-quality operations. He brings to Balcones more than 30 years of experience in the spirits beverage industry, where he successfully navigated the growth of startups into profitable, full-service companies and developed creative business practices that resulted in efficient, high-quality operations.

Prior to joining Balcones Distilling, McKethan served as the CEO of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank, where he lead and directed all operations to increase organizational gross revenue by 66 percent. McKethan held that role from June 2012 until Dec. 2015.

"I am thrilled to be working with the incredible staff at Balcones,” said Mark McKethan. “It is a position that will allow me to cross over between the spirits beverage industry and the art world, as I consider the whiskies that we make at Balcones to be works of art in themselves – carefully crafted by our resident artists and distillers."

At Balcones, McKethan will take on the important task of strategically targeting distribution points for currently limited product quantities while planning for the distribution of the upcoming increased production at the new facility. McKethan will also work hand-in-hand with Balcones’ brand manager and executive team to implement new marketing initiatives that will grow the scope of the Balcones brand and increase availability of their award-winning spirits.

In 2015, Balcones earned more than 50 awards for their whiskies and spirits. Most recently, they were named Texas Distiller of the Year by the New York International Spirits Competition for the second year in a row and recognized as theGrand American Whiskey Master 2015 at The Spirits Business Global Spirits Masters awards ceremony.

“After another phenomenal year, we are happy to welcome Mark to the Balcones team and look forward to making more of the whisky our fans have come to love,” said Balcones Head Distiller Jared Himstedt. “Our growth is a direct result of our continuous hard work and realization of our drive to create excellent spirits and get them in the hands of people who enjoy them.”

Balcones Distilling passionately makes its handcrafted, small batch spirits in Waco, Texas. In 2016 Balcones Distilling will expand distillery operations into a 65,000 square-foot, four-story brick building in Waco’s historic business district. A highlight of the new facility will be three-story tall copper stills from Forsyths, Scottland. The new space will also include a tasting room and retail section. This expansion will allow Balcones to make more of the products they love while still utilizing the same craft feel that is essential to the brand.
