Win a trip to Switzerland with your Gruyère Cheese recipe!

Chefs, sous chefs and industry professionals: you're one recipe away from the chance to win two tickets to Switzerland and a five-day tour of the Gruyère region and the Emmi Kaltbach Caves. All you have to do is submit one original recipe where Emmi Kaltbach Le Gruyère AOP cheese is the rock star ingredient. 

Swiss cheesemakers and affineurs carefully handpick a select number of wheels at six months in age to continue their refinement in the Kaltbach Caves in the Alpine Valley. Extended cave aging for a total of 12 months makes for a more complex cheese than a traditional Le Gruyère AOP. Aficionados of this cheese will experience a floral nuttiness, a smooth yet dense texture with a slight flake and a pronounced crystal crunch.

Deadline for Entry

All applicant submissions must be received by August 25, 2016. Final recipe submissions must be received no later than September 9, 2016.

How to Enter

Step 1: Submit an application to receive a sample of Emmi Kaltbach Le Gruyère AOP. The first 50 entrants will receive a Gruyère sample.

Step 2: After receiving your cheese sample, you must submit one original recipe, showcasing Emmi Kaltbach Le Gruyère AOP. Please include at least one photo of the finished dish with recipe submission. All photo submissions will be property of StarChefs for use on social media outlets and website.

Judging Criteria & Prizes


Think high-concept cheese course or one-bite-wonder amuse. We're looking for big Gruyère flavor and a complementary cadre of supporting elements (presentation doesn't hurt, either). Representatives from StarChefs and Emmi Roth will judge recipes based on:

  • Emphasis on Emmi Kaltbach Le Gruyère AOP as the main ingredient
  • Concept behind the flavor pairings
  • Culinary technique
  • Presentation of the final dish; photo must be provided


One grand prize winner will win:

  • Two tickets to Switzerland for a five-day tour of the Gruyère region and the Emmi Kaltbach Caves in 2017
  • A $500 travel stipend to attend StarChefs International Chefs Congress in New York (October 23 to 25) to showcase their winning dish live at the Chefs Products Fair
