Brewer Trish Rothgeb of Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters - Biography

San Francisco, CA

June 2013

Trish Rothgeb credits her start in the coffee industry to an after college move to Europe. An art major, Rothgeb moved to Olso to pursue painting, working as a barista on the side in the city's famed coffee houses. Eventually she discovered coffee was her true calling and learned the art of roasting. Coming back to the states, Rothgeb earned early java success as head roaster for Virginia-based Taylor Maid Farms and then Seattle's Zoka Coffee Roaster.

A licensed Q-Grader and credentialed Q Trainer by the Coffee Quality Institute, Rothgeb's experience in the industry spans over 20 years as a coffee roaster, green coffee buyer, and teacher of all things coffee. She has served on the SCAA's Roasters Guild Executive Council, was a charter member of the World Barista Championship Board of Directors, and a founding member of the Barista Guild of America. An avid traveler in coffee growing regions worldwide, she teaches cupping to coffee producers and coffee professionals around the world.

Today Rothgeb is the owner, green coffee buyer, and roastmaster at Bay Area-based Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters. Along with partner Nick Cho, Rothgeb is committed to bringing the best coffee to the area and continuing to push the industry forward.
