If there’s anything Tom Douglas has besides exceptional kitchen skills, it’s persistence and enthusiasm for growing a business. In 1989, Douglas, along with his wife and partner Jackie Cross, opened their first and flagship restaurant, Dahlia Lounge in downtown Seattle. It was the beginning of the restaurant group that would 20-some years later include successful and diverse businesses all over Seattle and employ almost a thousand people at restaurants such as Etta’s Seafood, Lola, Palace Kitchen, Serious Pie, and Cantina Lena.

Douglas’ hunger to make himself and his business better, more profitable, and more successful is unmatched. He’s always keeping an eye out for bigger and more exciting projects, leading with his strong creative vision. Douglas received the “Outstanding Restaurateur” Award from the James Beard Foundation in 2012, one of the three James Beard medals he’s won—the other two being “Best Chef Northwest” in 1994 and “Best Americana Cookbook” for Tom Douglas’ Seattle Kitchen in 2001. In 2012, Douglas was named “Executive of the Year” by Puget Sound Business Journal.
