Sommelier Kyungmoon Kim of JUNGSIK - Biography

Kyungmoon Kim discovered early on that he had a superior palate. Combining that with his natural aptitude for memorization, he started to build and extensive base of wine knowledge. Upon graduation from the Culinary Institute of America in 2005, Kim rounded out his education in hospitality management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. All the while he was winning accolades (and competitions) left and right: first place in the first Korean International Amateur Sommelier Contest, 2008; third place in the fifth Korean International Professional Sommelier Contest; and third in the 8th Concours National du Meilleur Sommelier en Vins de France en CorĂ©e.

In 2009, Kim joined the opening team at lauded JUNGSIK in Seoul, South Korea, spearheading the wine and beverage department. Next, he travelled halfway round the world to do the same for a second JUNGSIK opening in New York City in 2011. Kim holds an Advanced Sommelier Certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers and is currently working toward his Master Sommelier Diploma.
