Greg Majors of Craft - Biography

A Bay Area native, Greg Majors got his introduction to the restaurant industry while working his way through college at the University of California in San Diego. When Majors moved to New York City in 2005 he took a job at Manhattan’s famed CRU, splitting his time between the kitchen and the dining room (and all the while exposed to CRU’s fantastic wine program).

Majors transitioned fully into front of the house operations in 2007, when he opened Insieme with partners Paul Grieco and Marco Canora. While at Insieme Majors’ 'knack' for wine came naturally, and he slowly evolved into the role of beverage director. His time in the kitchen had helped to develop his palate, and during his time at Insieme he went from novice to wine professional, a result of working closely with wine industry heavyweight Paul Grieco, reading, tasting, and ultimately teaching others about wine as part of his duties at the restaurant.

In 2009 Majors returned to CRU, this time as Wine Director. It was in this position that he gained unique exposure to some of the greatest wines and winemakers in the world.

Since 2010, Majors has been the Beverage Director at the flagship Craft. His esoteric wine pairings to Chef James Tracey’s rustic fare have garnered much critical praise, including in a three-star New York Times review in September 2011. His selections at Craft are wide-ranging, featuring many high-end bottles, but with a good selection in the affordable $50-range.
