Bartender Elliot Strathmann of Spuntino - Biography

Denver, CO

October 2018

After attending Oberlin College, Elliot Strathmann spent several unsatisfying years working a desk job at a large mutual fund. He decided to follow his then girlfriend, now wife, Cindhura Reddy into the restaurant world, where she had been working as a cook for Michael Solomonov during Zahav’s first year. Strathmann got a job at the bar at Morimoto in Philly to kick off his new career.

The pair got married, traveled the world for nine months, and landed back in Pennsylvania for another year before moving to Denver in September 2013. Both were hired at Spuntino, Reddy as chef de cuisine after Strathmann became the beverage and general manager. In 2014, less than a year after their move, they jumped at the opportunity to buy the restaurant and molded it into a destination for thoughtful Italian food and drink. Strathmann has become known for his house-made amaro, crafted with herbs that he grows in his home garden and foraged ingredients from the woods of Colorado.

Reddy and Strathmann received StarChefs Colorado Knife and Shaker Award, which recognizes chef-bartender duos that exemplify collaboration and unity between the front and back of house. In March 2018, they opened their South Indian street food concept, Namkeen, inside Denver’s Zeppelin Food Hall.
