Restaurateur Ellen Yin of High Street Hospitality Group - Biography

Philadelphia, PA

September 2017

Ellen Yin has mostly flown under the radar, but she can be credited as one of the restaurateurs that changed Philadelphia’s dining scene. The New Jersey native always knew she wanted to open up her own restaurant, and after getting her MBA, saving enough money, putting together a business plan, and taking out a loan, she opened Fork in 1997, an envelope-pushing spot that’s been on Philly’s must-visit list for nearly two decades. In 2012, Yin brought on Chef Eli Kulp to bring new life to the restaurant, and he won a StarChefs Rising Stars Award the next year.

Today, Yin is the founder and co-owner of High Street Hospitality Group, which, along with Fork, houses three other concepts. High Street on Market, a much-lauded, ingredient-driven restaurant and bakery was honored as Bon Appetit’s no. 2 “Best New Restaurant” in 2014. and were named one of Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 Wine Restaurants in the Country” in 2015. High Street on Hudson in New York’s West Village became Food & Wine’s 2016 “Best Restaurant of the Year,” and the following year Chef Jon Nodler earned a StarChefs Rising Stars Award.
