Sommelier Diana Roderique of Trummer's on Main - Biography

Clifton, VA

October 2014

Diana Roderique brings more than 12 years of hospitality experience and a deep knowledge of wine to her position as sommelier and service director at Trummer’s on Main in Clifton, Virginia. As a Clifton native, she has a unique commitment to growing fine dining in the area, and has found no better place to display her skill as a Certified Sommelier and Specialist of Wine than at Trummer's, which boasts the largest wine cellar in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Her food and beverage experience reaches all the way back to the Fairfax County Public School’s culinary program. Eventually, Roderique became an apprentice of Marc Fusilier of Chez Marc Café 28 in Manassas, Virginia, spurring a passion for French cooking. She then attended The Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York with a scholarship from the Washington, D.C. chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier. After a stint at La Côte Basque in New York City under the direction of Jean-Jacques Rachou, she graduated with a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Culinary Arts Management.

From there, she accepted a position with the Ritz-Carlton, followed by a turn as chef instructor at The Art Institute of Washington. While training students to run front-of-house, Roderique worked to attain both a Certified Sommelier certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Advanced Level in the WSET program, and a CSW certification through the Society of Wine Educators.

Roderique joined Trummer’s in fall 2012 and successfully maintains an 8,000-bottle wine program that is both exciting and approachable. Her main goal is to choose wines that not only pair beautifully with the restaurant’s creative American cuisine, but also usher guests further into their own personal journeys of wine discovery.
