Mixologist Derek P. Brown of Underdog - Biography

When it comes to mixing drinks, Derek Brown is a late bloomer. Having tired of days-on-end working in finance, the 31-year-old Brown broke free of his cubicle and found a place as the bartender of Edward’s in New York City’s TriBeCa neighborhood. From there, the self-taught mixologist worked his way through the best bars and restaurants in Gotham, including Café Boulud, DBGB Kitchen & Bar, Momofuku Ssam Bar, and Danny Meyer’s North End Grill. With his latest gig at Underdog, located below FiDi beer haven The Growler, Brown focuses on a culinary approach to drinks, serving time-tested classic cocktails along with modern variations to a suit-and-tie clientele.
