Chef Daniel Kelly of Lincoln Park Zoo - Biography

Daniel Kelly began his 30-plus year career in earnest in 1991 when he joined the team at the Hyatt Regency Chicago as a banquet chef, eventually moving on to the Hyatt Rosemont, where he served as executive chef for three years. In 2002, Kelly opened his own restaurant, D.Kelly, which Chicago Magazine named among its “Top 20 New Restaurants.” Kelly also served as executive chef of Avenue M, Rick Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood, and Cyrano’s Farm Kitchen. Kelly eventually returned to the Hyatt Regency Chicago to helm American Craft Kitchen & Bar.

Kelly also works closely with Careers through Culinary Arts Program and the Illinois Restaurant Association. He coaches students in preparation for cooking contests, and eight of his students have won scholarships to attend schools such as the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson and Wales University. Kelly currently works with Levy Restaurants as chef of Cafe Brauer at Chicago’s iconic Lincoln Park Zoo.
