Brewer Casey Hughes - Biography
Brewer Casey Hughes has been working in the craft beer industry since 1995. Before he was even legal to drink, Hughes began worked at the Key West Brewery as a packaging supervisor. Eventually, he worked his way up to brewer, and in 2002, he moved his talents north to become the head brew12
At Flying Fish, Hughes produces a range of beers year-round, as well as some seasonal specialties. He also brews the Exit Series, a special selection of beers highlighting the state through the various turnpike exits. In 2012, Flying Fish moved into a new facility in Somerdale, New Jersey, making it the largest brewery built in the state since Prohibition. The move will allow Hughes to quadruple production.
Hughes has received high praise for his beers. The Great American Beer Festival Awards gave Exit 8 bronze in 2012, Exit 4 gold in 2009, Hop Fish bronze in 2008, and Abby Dubbel silver in 2008. Exit 4 also was also picked “Best Belgian Beer in America” by Men’s Journal.
Hughes is a former President of Master Brewers Association of America, and his favorite styles to brew are IPAs and Belgian-style ales.
