October 2018

A few years after Bob Spiegel graduated from Johnson & Wales University (class of 1982), he became a sous chef at New York City catering company Glorious Food. He then took a break from catering to cook around the world, starting at Il Cantinori in New York, Ristorante di Pisa in Tuscany, and for the Bukara Restaurant Group in India. Upon his return to the States, Spiegel started his own catering company, Creative Edge Parties, in 1989. He remained there as executive chef until 2010, when he decided to find a more visually stimulating way to serve food and impress party guests.

TJ Girard, a creative director, had worked in the art departments of television shows including “Friends” and “Two and a Half Men.” When she decided to take a position at Creative Edge Parties, she met Spiegel and the two connected immediately through their vision for a new food experience for guests. In 2011, the pair formed Pinch Food Design, where they create revolutionary new designs for showcasing cuisine with custom serving ware, towering displays, and innovative bites. Their client list includes industry titans such as Google, Viacom, H&M, and Target. In 2014, the pair published Inspired Bites: Unexpected Ideas for Entertaining from Pinch Food Design.
