Chances are we (the servers} areoften fulfilling requests from other guests (i.e. salt, a side ofsomething, a fork, more water, another drink, another napkin, a recookon an entree, etc.). Some of these requests need to be taken care ofbefore a guest can proceed with their meal. Why should they stare attheir food while the server starts an entirely new table. A good server, however, will acknowledge your presence with a ", I` be with you in afew minutes." or some similar greeting. We` not avoiding you. We justwant to give you the same amount of service as any of our other tablesand we can` do that by briefly stoppting by, jamming through thespecials, rushing you through a drink order, etc. If we could do tenthings at once we would, but nine is our limit so please at leastrecognize this, if not accept it.
