Yield: 6 servings
Hot chocolate made by melting solid chocolate is richer and creamier
than hot chocolate made from cocoa. It is a luscious way to begin the
day.
- 6 cups whole or low-fat milk
- 9 Tablespoons sugar
- 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Whipped cream for garnish (optional)
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk, sugar and chocolate over medium
heat, stirring constantly. When the chocolate is melted and the mixture
is nearly boiling, remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla. Pour the
hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream, if desired.
