Jill Gubesch, Sommelier, Topolobampo and Frontera Grill, Chicago
Jill Gubesch was raised in a small town in Western New
York where her family grew all of their own produce. She grew up learning
the importance of fresh, quality ingredients, and how they make all
the difference in preparing great food.
She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1987 with a BFA in
Music Theatre. Though she had been working in restaurants all through
school, her passion for food and wine only became a career after graduation.
Since 1987, she has worked in Italian, French and Spanish restaurants
in Chicago, gaining knowledge of the wine and cuisines of those countries.
In 2001 Jill became a certified sommelier. Later that same year, she
came to Frontera Grill and Topolobampo as the sommelier, intent on learning
a new cuisine and taking on the challenge of pairing wine with Mexican
Jill also belongs to a local sommelier group that organizes regular
tastings of wine in Chicago.
