Get ready for some tiraditos and causas at the March 27th pisco tasting happy hour, hosted by Chile's Trade Commission. The hora de feliz will feature music, appetizers, and pisco drinks developed by none other than cocktail historian and writer David Wondrich. The tasting will be at 221 Centre Street from 1pm to 5pm. Congrats are in order! The James Beard Awards finalists are in, and two Rising Stars are among the august company:

  • Paul Qui of Uchiko (nominated for Best Chef: Southwest)
  • Alon Shaya of Domenica (nominated for the Best Chef: South)
After closing San Francisco dessert shop Citizen Cake and new American restaurant Orson, Chef Elizabeth Falkner is pulling up stakes for Brooklyn. According to the scuttlebutt, she'll be teaming up with fellow 'ciscans Nancy Puglisi and Darren Crawford-both beverage gurus-to open up a Sicilian-style pizzeria with a focus on cocktails in the Park Slope or Carroll Gardens areas.

According to her Web site, Falkner still has plans for a Citizen Cake cookbook for 2013.

Congratulations to 2012 Austin Rising Star Chef Paul Qui of Uchiko, who is now also Bravo's Top Chef! In case you missed the finale, Qui won the designation-beating out Chef Sarah Grueneberg of Spiaggia, Chicago-with the following dishes:

  • Chawanmushi, Steamed Egg Custard, Prawns, and Pea Shoots
  • Grilled Sea Bass with Clam Dashi, Pickled Radishes, and Mushrooms
  • Congee with Scrambled Eggs, Uni, and Kal
  • Coconut Ice Cream with Puffed Wild Rice, Mangosteen, and Thai Chili Foam
