The James Beard Foundation has announced that the 2008 James Beard awards will take place on Sunday, June8, 2008 at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center, New York City. The Journalism awards will take place the preceeding Friday, June 6, 2008.
Ryan Tate, most recently the sous chef at Cookshop in Chelsea, is the new Chef de Cuisine at Savoy.
StarChef Daniel Boulud will open a high-concept burger restaurant on Bowery in late 2008. He was granted a liquor license earlier this week.
Varietal has closed, as has Nish. Chef Wayne Nish was executive chef of both restaurants.
StarChefs.com Rising Star Josh DeChellis has left Sumile Sushi. Chef DeChellis plans to open a tempura-focused restaurant, Bar Fry, in the coming months. Executive chef Evan Rich has replaced Chef DeChellis.
DC Chef Fabio Trabocchi, who ran the line at Maestro at the Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, has replaced Christian Fantoni as chef of Fiamma.
Nick Morganstern, former pastry chef of Gilt, is the new pastry chef at Cookshop.

Executive Chef Art Smith will open Table Fifty-Two on July 31st.

Philadelphia Chef Jose Garces, of Tinto and Amada, will open Mercat, his first Chicago outpost, in the Blackstone Hotel in early 2008.
StarChef Charlie Trotter announced plans to open a seafood-themed restaurant and bar in the Venetian Hotel in November. Chef John Shields will run the kitchen.

Rising StarChef Michael Schulson has left Buddakan, but will remain as a consultant to the Starr Restaurant Organization.

New Orleans
StarChef John Besh's restaurant group has acquired Luke, a brasserie located in the CBD's Hilton Hotel. Jarod Tees, executive chef of Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House, will oversee the kitchen.
StarChefs.com Rising StarChef Scott Boswell has announced plans to reopen his restaurant Stella! August first. This will be the first time the restaurant has opened since Hurricane Katrina.
