1. New Amsterdam Market at South Street This Sunday
With local food at the forefront of many menus and political agendas these days, we are all looking for ways to support local producers. Fortunately, the New Amsterdam Market is taking place this weekend in New York City, so come out and show your support for the creation of a permanent wholesale and retail market. This Sunday June 29 from 11am to 4pm, trek to Market Square across from the old Market Building at South Street to taste and purchase foods from over 60 of New York's best chefs, bakers, food producers, and purveyors. This Sunday's event is when chefs can show their support and help establish a permanent wholesale market for sustainably-produced local food, as well as revive the historical tradition of a year-round regional food market. Chefs, get there early to meet farmers, food artisans, and other chefs. The better the turnout, the stronger the campaign to create a public market in Fulton Fish Market buildings.

    3. JobSeeker Career Tip: Follow Your Idols
Like most culinary professionals, your career idols are probably famous chefs, writers of engaging cookbooks, and savvy restaurateurs. How did they get such cool jobs? And, more to the point, how do you get a job like that? Read up on these extraordinary chefs (lots of info at StarChefs.com and in the Chefs to Know book), focusing on their early career and education instead of their fame and accolades. There you'll find inspiration for your own career path. By looking at the steps your idols took on the way to their great careers, you can begin to see the kind of jobs, research, and independent experience you'll need to explore on your way to the top. If you can plan where you want to be and map the steps it takes to get there, it won't be too long before you're an idol to someone else.

    4. Food Porn: StarChefs Photo Galleries are Explicitly Delicious
In a recent article in the Baltimore Examiner, Dara Bunjon finds herself hot and bothered by alluringly lifelike photos of fine flesh. Dara was so affected by these photographs that soon she was "...licking [her] monitor's screen: enticed, titillated, and with uncontrolled yearning." Those photos, of course, are from the StarChefs.com tasting galleries. The latest galleries feature shots from tastings with Chef Yoshinori Ishii of Morimoto Omakase Bar, Chef Tony Esnault and Pastry Chef Sandro Micheli of Adour, Mixologist Dominick Chrzaszcz of P*Ong. One look, and you'll be licking the screen, too.
