3. CEO’s Dish: Choosing the Right Candidate

If two candidates are neck and neck for a position, both having similar qualifications, good references, and are enthusiastic for the job, consider giving them a test or assignment to allow them to demonstrate their abilities and make your decision easier. Tests or assignments should pertain to the job being sought. When hiring for a Back of the House position, test their knife skills and ability to work with a team. For Front of the House applicants, ask problem-solving questions to find out how they would handle various problematic situations. Hopefully this will help determine which candidate may be a slightly better match for your needs.
