| 1. Recruiting Tip
Give your current employees an incentive to refer qualified people to
you. Let them know that if you end up hiring a person they refer, they
will be rewarded with gift certificates, a day off, or whatever perk you
can afford.

| 2. JobFinder
Online Classifieds Posting Tip
When writing your online classifieds ad, don’t write the entire
description in capital letters. Using all caps is considered yelling on
the Internet and is not necessary to get the attention of JobSeekers.

| 3. CEO’s Dish: Preparing
for an Interview
An applicant is not the only one who should try to make a good impression
during an interview. The interviewer should try to present themselves
and the company in a good light by being organized, timely, and good-natured.
Here are some basics for preparing for interviews:
- Bring a copy of the applicant’s resume to the interview even
if you plan on asking the applicant if they brought a copy.
- Be on time. If you have a hard time getting in to work in the mornings,
try to schedule interviews for later in the day.
- Have a prepared list of interview questions that pertain to the position
being filled.
- If possible, have more than one person present during the interview.
This helps to ensure all bases will be covered during the interview
process.
- Be aware of the types of questions that are considered discriminatory.

| 5. Participate in
Restaurants Against Hunger - October 19, 2004
Since 2001, over 100 restaurants in New York and surrounding areas have
helped Action Against Hunger (AAH) by participating in Restaurants Against
Hunger—inviting customers to have dinner in their establishments
and donating a percentage of their profits to AAH. This year, the event
will take place in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago,
New York, and Boston. The event will be a win-win proposition for both
participating restaurants and AAH.
- The event will be held on a Tuesday night, typically a slow night,
in order to increase business for restaurants on that day.
- A minimum donation of 20% of sales for the night is requested in order
to generate media coverage, provide high quality public relations for
restaurants, and maximize donations for AAH.
