1. Participate in Restaurants Against Hunger October 19th
Since 2001, over 100 restaurants in New York and surrounding areas have joined Action Against Hunger in the fight against hunger by participating in Restaurants Against Hunger—inviting customers to have dinner in their establishments and donating a percentage of their profits to AAH. In 2004, we are expanding this event nationally (San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Boston), increasing the number of restaurants and the level of awareness. The event will be a win-win situation for both participating restaurants and Action Against Hunger.

  • The event will be held on Tuesday, October 19th, a typically slow night, in order to increase business for restaurants on that day.
  • A minimum donation of 20% of sales for the night is requested in order to generate more media coverage, provide high quality public relations for restaurants, and maximize donations for AAH.

5. CEO’s Dish: Coming Up with Interview Questions

To conduct a productive interview that will give you the information you need to make an informed decision when hiring, you need to prepare appropriate interview questions. The best way to create pertinent interview questions is to analyze what skills are required for the position you are trying to fill. Once you have determined the responsibilities of the position and the skills needed to perform the job, write a brief description, detailing those responsibilities and skills, as well as defining what role the employee will play in the company structure. From the description, you can determine key points that must be addressed during the interview. Questions should allow the interviewee to discuss their relevant skills and give examples of how they have applied those skills.

Addressing a candidate’s interpersonal skills is as important in the interview as addressing the professional skills. Construct questions that will reveal an applicant’s interpersonal skills and attitude. It is important to find out how an applicant will relate to other employees and their potential to thrive in the company. “What sports do you play?” and, “Why do you want to work here?” are examples of questions that will give you insight into an applicant’s interpersonal skills. If an applicant responds to the sports question by saying they enjoy playing a team sport, such as football, you can assume that they are probably a team player. An applicant’s response to the second question will show their attitude toward the position. A prime candidate would show excitement and eagerness to begin working for you.

Taking the time to develop relevant interview questions not only enables you to collect pertinent information, but also ensures a structured interview that will be consistent and fair for all applicants.
