National Chef Awards Return To San Francisco

San Francisco, CA (April 23, 2007) - San Francisco, CA —, the online magazine for culinary insiders, returns to San Francisco for the Rising Stars Chef Awards on June 19. Antoinette Bruno, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of explains, “In classic San Francisco fashion, chefs are producing ingredient-driven seasonal dishes that focus on flavor. And this year a lot of them are seamlessly weaving in high-concept technique without drawing attention away from their products. They’re pleasing their diners without compromising their culinary philosophies or negotiating their drive to mature as chefs.” The Rising Stars Revue is a national award that recognizes chefs from around the country as they come into their own as young leaders in the culinary field. Rising Stars candidates were recommended for consideration by the Advisory Board, and final choices were made by’s editorial team based on in-person tastings and interviews.

The StarChefs 2007 San Francisco Rising Stars include Chef Nate Appleman of A16, Chef Jennifer Biesty of Coco500, Chef Mark Dommen of One Market, Chef James Syhabout of Plumpjack Café, Chef Mourad Lahlou of Aziza, Chef Jonah Oakden of The Blue Plate, Chef Seiji Wakabayashi of Bushi Tei, Pastry Chef Belinda Leong of Gary Danko, Pastry Chef Nicole Krasinski of Rubicon, Hotel Chef Peter Rudolph of Campton Place, Sommelier Becky Swenson of Delfina, Sommelier Michael Garcia of XYZ at the W Hotel, Bar Chef Jonny Raglin of Absinthe, Sustainability Award Chef Laurence Jossel of NOPA and Host Chef Thomas Rimpel of Westin St. Francis. The Mentor award winner, selected personally by the San Francisco Rising Stars winners and candidates, will be announced the night of the Gala. This mentor chef is recognized for his or her integral role of educating young chefs while helping them succeed in their local market.

The Rising Stars Revue is a walk-around tasting gala featuring signature dishes from each chef, as well as premium wine pairings, spirits, and entertainment. The event will be held at the Westin St. Francis, 335 Powell Street, from 7:00pm – 9:30pm. Tickets are $95 per person and are available at or by calling 212-966-3775. VIP tickets aret $150 and include a pre-Gala champagne and caviar reception featuring Nicolas Feuillatte 1997 Palmes d’Or Champagne.

San Francisco is the 17th Rising Stars Revue held since the award’s inception in 2003. 2007 Revues will also be held in Dallas, New York and Atlanta.
