Having a keen appreciation of all things alcoholic, in 1989 Simon Difford established a wholesale drinks business and in 1990 also opened a specialist off-licence (Tipples) close to his old school in Bromley, Kent, England. The store which was an Aladdin’s Cave of liquor was sold in 1994 and the wholesale business taken over by Coe Vintners, a large London drinks wholesaler, at the end of 1995. Simon then worked for Coe’s and sourced new drinks brands until establishing CLASS Magazine in 1997, a title which soon became recognised as the UK’s leading magazine on bar culture. Simon wrote for and presided over CLASS Magazine until its sale in August 2001 to prepare for the launch of Sauce Guides Limited. He now writes and publishes under the Sauceguides and Diffordsguide brand names. His mixing abilities were proven in 2002 when he won the Best Daiquiri in London competition.
