Port Wine

Drinking hot-spiced wine is the perfect way to enjoy a cold winter
night with friends and family. This is a variation of the recipe
which my mother serves every Christmas Eve. An inexpensive ruby
port works best for this recipe since its flavor is subtler and
will blend easier with the spices. Since port wines vary in sweetness,
you may want to add some sugar to taste.
Yield: 8 Servings
Ingredients:
- 750 ml Ruby Port Wine
- ½ cup water
- Juice of 1 orange
- 3 lemon twists
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 4 cloves
- 4 allspice berries
- 1 orange cut into half moons
Method:
In a large saucepan combine all ingredients except orange pieces
and simmer over low–medium heat about 1 hour. Ladle into mugs
and garnish with orange pieces.
