On The Town:
Fifth Annual World Food Day Gala 2004
October 5, 2004
The
Metropolitan Club of New York City was in full swing for Action
Against Hunger’s (AAH) World Food Day Gala. The guests were
a reflection of an international community committed to the fight
against world hunger. Attendees included Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Dr. Elie Wiesel, Auctioneer and International Director of Impressionist
and Modern Art for Christie’s Nicholas F. MacLean and, of
course, StarChefs. Four chefs, Chef Karl Schmid of The Metropolitan
Club, Chef Andrew Gold from The Institute of Culinary Education,
Chef Cornelius Gallagher of Oceana, and Chef Gina DePalma of Babbo
all dedicated their time and expertise to make the World Food Day
Gala 2004 a success.
Menu
highlights included Chef Gallagher’s Loup de Mer in a thin
bread crust, and Chef DePalma’s Torta Caprese, a chocolate
and walnut torte. The Gala raised awareness and funds to fight the
severe malnutrition suffered by millions everyday in underdeveloped
and war torn countries.
