A SUGAR AND CHAMPAGNE AFFAIR
May 24, 2004
Join New York’s hottest pastry chefs as
they transform a hip bar in Chelsea into a sugar wonderland on behalf
of animal welfare at this year’s “A Sugar and Champagne
Affair.” Proceeds will benefit the Humane Law Enforcement
Department of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals (ASPCA). An all-star lineup of pastry chefs will be paired
up with handpicked champagne producers for this intimate evening
of sumptuous sweets and delicious bubbly.
“A Sugar and Champagne Affair” debuted
in Washington, D.C. two years ago, spearheaded by Ellen and Todd
Gray of Equinox (http://www.equinoxrestaurant.com). This year they
are bringing the event to New York and featuring the sweet sensations
of Lisa Scruggs of Equinox; Jean François Bonnet of Daniel;
Jason Licker of The Peninsula Hotel; John Miele of Aureole; Susan
Punturieri of Chanterelle; Vicki Wells of Mesa Grill; and William
Yosses of Citarella.
Tickets are $75 and may be purchased by calling
(212) 876-7700 ext. 4652. Additional funds will be raised at the
event through the sale of boxed chocolates donated by pastry instructors
of the French Culinary Institute. For more information, go to: www.sugarandchampagne.com
ABOUT THE ASPCA
Founded in 1866, the American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was the first humane organization
established in the Western Hemisphere and exists to promote humane
principles, prevent cruelty and alleviate pain, fear and suffering
in animals. The ASPCA provides national programming and leadership
in humane education and public awareness, government affairs and
public policy, shelter support, animal placement, animal medical
services and poison control services. The New York City headquarters
houses a full-service animal hospital, animal behavior center, adoption
facility, and Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) Department, which is
responsible for enforcing New York's animal cruelty laws. For more
