Join New York’s Chefs
in celebration of the spirit of New York City and its remarkable
restaurants, City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research
Institute presents the inaugural Hope à la Carte, a philanthropic
social event uniting top chefs throughout Manhattan in the fight
against cancer. Join us as several of the city’s chefs present
their innovative recipes in an elegant, cocktail party setting at
the legendary Waldorf=Astoria. Proceeds will benefit groundbreaking
research, treatment and education programs in breast cancer and
other life-threatening illnesses at City of Hope. |
| Mushrooms
and Red Grapes
Hope à la Carte highlights research currently being conducted
at City of Hope examining the role of food in preventing breast
cancer. Our studies indicate certain types of mushrooms along with
red grapes (including red grape juice, red wine and grape seed extract)
contain naturally occurring chemicals that slow the production of
estrogen, a hormone that can stimulate the growth of breast cancer.
Our scientists hope to identify the specific substance that suppresses
aromatase – an enzyme that controls the production of estrogen
– to ultimately develop new strategies to prevent and treat
breast cancer.
