October 19-23, 2008 in Paris, France
SIAL Paris 2008, the 23rd edition of The Global Food Marketplace, is scheduled October 19-23, 2008 at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Center. SIAL Paris, held biennially since 1964, is the largest of the four SIAL exhibitions organized in the world. This year, show organizers anticipate 5,500 exhibitors and 140,000 visitors from across the globe. They’ll be drawn by the special pavilions focusing on French exports, food and nutrition, food and beauty, and “best buys,” and a brand-new “Retail World,” making its premier at the Paris show.
The Best Buy selection will again be present in the Wine area allowing visitors to taste and learn about wines that offer an exceptionally good value. This year there will be four price categories: wines under €2, wines at €2-€4, at €4-€6 and at €6-€10. The fine food area of the show will be much larger this year and will once again showcase teas, chocolate, confectionery, olive oil, top quality regional products and more – 58% of which will be new to SIAL.
Retail Worldis a brand new area in the show where the latest distribution concepts and solutions will be showcased along with the 248 competitors of the “SIAL d’Or” new products competition. The French Export Corner is an advice center that will offer support to foreign buyers interested in sourcing French products and to French companies looking to export their products. Foreign buyers will be able to access a database that will allow them to identify the exhibitors they want to meet and make appointments with manufacturers.
Furthering its drive for innovation, SIAL will again host the Trends and Innovations showcase which provides an overview of exhibitors’ products that offer the strongest benefits to the consumer or the retailer. The products in this area have been assessed by an independent panel of experts and will be on display in the Trends and Innovation area of the show.
This year’s SIAL will also delve deeper into the aspect of nutrition with the creation of the Nutrition Village sector in the show. This area’s aim is to bring together all major players in the field and to serve as an information center on the importance of nutrition for all sectors of the food industry. Within the Nutrition Village there will be thirty conferences and seminars with topics ranging from disease prevention to food’s relationship with beauty.
Food products are becoming ever more sophisticated, even boasting cosmetic qualities and SIAL 2008 will demonstrate this trend with two programs: Food & Beauty and Beyond Beauty Paris. In these areas, products will be showcased around the themes of anti-aging, energy and vitality, health and well-being, a glowing complexion, detoxification, moisturizing, weight management and glamour. A mini-conference on the food and beauty trend will expose a number of topics such as products and packaging, market codes, sales pitches, growth categories, distribution channels and international comparisons. Each day at SIAL there will be a workshop and guided tour of the Food & Beauty area.
This year the USA Pavilions in Halls 4 and 6 will be the largest in the show’s history, with over 23,303 square feet of space. The Association of Food Industries and the Cheese Importers Association of America will both hold special programs during the show.
