BiographyMike Colameco began cooking in high school; today he has parlayed over 20 years in the kitchen into a successful career in food media as the host and producer of “Colameco’s Food Show” on public television and “Food Talk” on WOR Radio.
After graduating from The Culinary Institute of America, Colameco began working at The Four Seasons in New York City. His next position was sous chef under Christian Delouvrier, and consulting chef Alain Senderens, at Maurice Restaurant. The next three years say him at Windows on the World, Tavern on the Green, and The Ritz-Carlton, Central Park, before he opened his own restaurant, Globe, in Cape May, New Jersey.
Globe was open for 5 years, until Colameco started a food import company, MECO Trading, which consulted for overseas food manufacturers and sourced supplies for US-based importer/distributors. The import brokerage business took him through Europe and Morocco, where aside from eating very well, he consulted, inspected, and led customers – including Pizza Hut, Sysco, and US Foodservice – through inspections of docks, farms, markets, and food production facilities. In 2000 he began “Colameco’s Food Show,” which continues to air on channels 13 WNET and WNJN, and in 2006 began “Food Talk,” which airs live 6 days a week on WOR and 64 other nationally affiliated network stations. His cookbook, Mike Colameco’s Food Lover’s Guide to New York City, is soon to be published by John Wiley & Sons.
