BiographyMain Street Restaurant Partners is the brain child of Jeff Kadish and Steve Scher, high school friends who carved out a niche in the world of restaurant ownership and operations consulting. Kadish has worked in restaurants since the age of 12, studying restaurant management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, 1984 and continuing on to work as a manager, general manager, and F&B director for Chart House Restaurants, Restaurant Associates, and the Back Bay Restaurant Group. His broad culinary knowledge and restaurant experience is enhanced through his extensive travel around the world, during which he studied with chefs in Paris, Italy, Hong Kong and Thailand. Today Kadish is considered the Main Street Restaurant Partners’ “go-to guy,” due to his vast knowledge about the “nuts and bolts” of the restaurant business.
In 1993, Kadish reunited with a high school friend, Steve Scher, and opened Main Street, “a family style” American restaurant located on the Upper West Side. Scher had recently decided to leave a successful law career and pursue his longstanding desire to open a restaurant; the timing was right, and he was able to team up with Kadish, who brought the restaurant and culinary savvy to the table. The two began a successful partnership that has lasted over 15 years, and included some of the biggest names in New York Restaurants.
In May of 1995, Rain opened around the corner from Main Street. With a growing operations team in place, the partners set out to create an even grander experience, teaming with the talented chef Rocco DiSpirito in 1997 to open Union Pacific in the Flatiron district. Since then, the group has opened a second location of Rain, Calle Ocho – a Latin restaurant on the Upper West Side, Django in Midtown, and BLT Prime in NYC and BLT Steak in Washington, DC with Chef Laurent Tourondel.
Main Street Restaurant Partners has branched out to perform Financial Management for a number of restaurants including Grayz, San Domenico, Le Cirque and Osteria De Circo, in addition to overseeing the operational and financial management of the company owned properties.
Over the years the group has taken on pre-opening consulting arrangements for operations in NYC and California. Currently Main Street Restaurant Partners is consulting on the opening of a private club in NYC and the F&B operations for a boutique hotel in New Haven CT.
