BiographyEntrepreneur Kep Sweeney, president of Acceleron Group, a member of the board of Stonepoint Global Brands Inc., and co-president of Sterling and Oxford, began his career in the kitchen. As a scholarship student of Julia Child and Anne Willan, he attended Le Cordon Bleu in London, England, before working as sous chef of Washington, D.C.’s highly acclaimed 21 Federal and the executive chef of 21 Federal in Nantucket, MA.
Sweeney’s talents in the kitchen were matched by a gift for business, which eventually led him to Wall Street, where, for the past two decades, he has been an entrepreneur and analyst. Before joining Acceleron, he was an equity research analyst at Salomon Brothers and a merger and acquisition analyst at Gateway Partners. As a specialist financial firm, Acceleron Group provides merchant banking, asset management, and corporate advisory services to middle-market clients. Engagements undertaken include mergers, acquisitions, turnarounds, litigation management, corporate development, strategic financial planning as well as research and statistical analysis. Acceleron Group’s client list spans a wide range of industries, including hospitality, technology, biotech, entertainment, retail, and finance.
Sweeney has been a guest on CNNFN, CNBC, Bloomberg TV, and NPR, and featured or quoted in many national publications, including Crain's NY and The Financial Times. He holds a master in business administration from the Kenan-Flager Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas and the author of the book, The New Restaurant Entrepreneur: an Inside Look at Restaurant Deal-Making and Other Tales from the Culinary Trenches (Kaplan Business, 2004).
