A combination of Italian Renaissance and modern cool, the W has 317 rooms, all furnished with the expected elegance (waterfall showers, high-thread sheets), as well as spa, fitness center, and a pet-friendly policy. Imbibing and gorging are no problem. Located in the hotel is Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s J&G Steakhouse, which offers the usual suspects of seared prime, as well as a few of JG’s staples, including foie gras brûlée. Upstairs is the P.O.V. bar, which serves tapas snacks (also from Jean-Georges) and cocktails served with several types of shaved and hand-sculpted ice spheres. The W hotel also boasts its signature Whatever/Whenever service, which is pretty much what it claims: additional frills tailored to a guest’s particular desires, such as luggage pick-up and delivery, portable snacks for plane travel, or even a pair of running shoes in the middle of the night.
