Pull up a seat, ya’ll. This Texas restaurant blends Southern hospitality with a modern, sustainable edge. There’s a garden out back, and Chef James Holmes welcomes diners through what looks like the back door—everybody’s family here. And Holmes’s wink-at-your-Southern-grandma dishes (“lamb fries” are deep-fried testicles and sweetbreads a play on sweet-and-sour chicken) are served in a sleek, Marfa-inspired space. Pastry Chef Taff Mayberry plays with nostalgia without going full-blown comfort, and in a nod to Austin’s party scene, often douses his desserts with a healthy splash of booze.
