Avenue Fruit and Nut Granola

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups organic rolled oats
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon dark corn syrup
2 ounces fresh orange juice
1 ounce pumpkin seeds, hulled
1 ounce sesame seeds, unhulled
1 ounce walnuts
1 ounce almonds, slivered
1 ounce sunflower seeds
1 ounce currents
1 ounce golden raisins
1 ounce black raisins
1 ounce dried cherries
3 cups whole or skim milk/yogurt or apple or orange juice (your preference)

METHOD:

1. In a bowl, mix rolled oats, brown sugar, corn syrup and orange juice very well. Place mixture on a baking sheet tray with parchment paper, spread out evenly and bake at 350°F oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes. When granola mixture is crisp and has thoroughly dried, set out to cool.

2. Toast all nuts and seeds separately until golden, for more flavor.

3. Break up granola mixture with a metal spatula and place back in a bowl; add nuts, seeds and mixed dried fruits.Serve granola with your favorite dairy product: skim milk, whole milk or yogurt. Fruit juices may be substituted for dairy products.
