Andy's Award Winning BBQ Sauce, a.k.a UFO Social Club Barbecue Sauce

INGREDIENTS:

Basic Barbecue Rub
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons ground cumin
2 Tablespoons chili powder
2 Tablespoons salt
2 Tablespoons freshly ground black pepper
1 Tablespoon cayenne
4 Tablespoons paprika
UFO Social Club Barbecue Sauce
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large yellow onion, chopped
1 (14.5-ounce) can tomato puree
1 (14.5-ounce) can tomatoes, with juice
½ cup white vinegar
2 packed Tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
1 Tablespoon freshly cracked black pepper
1 Tablespoon paprika
1 Tablespoon chili powder
2 Tablespoons molasses
¼ cup Basic Barbecue Rub
½ cup orange juice
4 Tablespoons yellow mustard
1 (12-ounce) bottle dark beer

METHOD:

For Basic Barbecue Rub:
Mix together all the ingredients thoroughly. The rub will keep for several months stored in a cool, dark place in an airtight container. Yields 1 cup.

For UFO Social Club Barbecue Sauce
Heat oil in large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté, stirring frequently, until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to very low and simmer gently for 2 hours. Stir the sauce occasionally, scraping the bottom of the pot to prevent scorching. Transfer the sauce to a food processor or blender and puree in 2 batches. Transfer to a clean glass jar and store for up to 7 to 10 days in the refrigerator.
