INGREDIENTS:

Strawberry-Sassafras Root Syrup
Strawberries
Cane sugar
Water
Star anise
Cinnamon
Salt
Cardamom
Cayenne
Sassafras root , cracked
To Assemble and Serve
1½ ounces Angostura 1919 rum
1 ounce Angostura 5-year rum
½ ounce Homericon mastiha liqueur
1¼ ounce Louisiana strawberry-sassafras root syrup
½ ounce lime juice
¼ ounce lemon juice
3 dashes Angostura bitters
Chocolate mint

METHOD:

Strawberry-Sassafras Root Syrup

To a medium saucepot, add strawberries, cane sugar, anise, cinnamon, salt, cardamom, and cayenne and simmer. Remove from heat, cool, and transfer to a blender. Add sassafras and blend until incorporated. Strain through a chinois.

To Assemble and Serve

To a shaker, add rums, liqueur, syrups, juices, and bitters. Add ice and shake. Strain into a rocks glass. Add fresh ice and garnish with chocolate mint.
