Santa Barbara High VADA Graduate and Recipient of Teen Mentorship Grant is
Now a Working Artist and a Mentor to Others
WHO: Lucky Penny, Santa Barbara and Artist Michael Draghi, alumnus of
Santa Barbara High School VADA program (Visual Arts and Design)
WHAT: Lucky Penny, Santa Barbara's most talked about new landmark with an exterior
tiled in real pennies, has enlisted the talents of Michael Draghi to create a large
scale mural in the restaurant's outdoor patio. Draghi, born and raised in Santa
Barbara, is a graduate of Santa Barbara High School's Visual Arts and Design
Program (VADA) and the recipient of the city's Teen Mentorship Grant from the
Arts, funded by The Arts Fund of Santa Barbara. Draghi recently received his
Fine Arts degree from the New School at Parsons in Manhattan and is currently a
working artist living in Brooklyn. Draghi was assisted by two local high
school students currently in the VADA program at Santa Barbara High School.
Lucky Penny General Manager Dan Russo states, "As members of the Funk Zone neighborhood, we are committed to supporting the arts and sharing original work with the community in a public space that is accessible to everyone. We hope to continue this program and foster other young talent in Santa Barbara."
The mural flanks the living garden wall that borders the outdoor seating area of Lucky Penny. The official unveiling of the Draghi's mural will take place on September 23, 2013.
The public and media is invited to attend and spread the word and imagery through social media by tagging @luckypennysb or www.facebook.com/LuckyPennySB or by becoming a fan of Draghi on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MichaelDraghiArt
