Eighth Blackbird Benefit: A Night Of Music And Dining
The ides of March will be anything but ominous when chefs Paul Kahan and Mario Batali come together at The Publican on March 15 for the Eighth Blackbird Benefit, an evening of food, libations and live music. The benefit raises funds in support of the musical arts of eighth blackbird, a traveling sextet of musicians known for its contemporary sound.
The event begins with a concert by eighth blackbird at the Packer Schopf Gallery (942 W. Lake St.) featuring performance highlights from the group's tour last year. Glenn Kotche from the band Wilco will make a special guest performance, accompanied by Batali on guitar.
Post-concert, Kahan and Batali will cook a five-course, music-themed meal at The Publican. Each chef will prepare two courses, which will be followed by a dessert from The Publican kitchen, all served with wine and beer pairings. The chefs will base their dishes on the musical selections. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction of items donated by friends of eighth blackbird.
The concert begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by hors d'oeuvres and a Champagne reception at 7 p.m. at The Publican. Dinner begins at 7:30 p.m., with all dishes decided upon last-minute based on the preceding concert. The event concludes at 10:30 p.m., with The Publican's cash bar remaining open until 11:30 p.m. The cost is $250 per person and reservations are required.
