Chef Tyler Anderson of Millwright’s to combine forces with Jamie McDonald of Bears BBBQ to join forces to create an exciting new restaurant concept

Jamie “The Bear” McDonald of Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ, Chef Tyler Anderson, and

A.J. Aurrichio of Millwright’s restaurant have signed a lease with Starwood Group for a

new restaurant in Blue Back Square called “Cook and the Bear”.  The restaurant will be

located diagonally across from the Delamar hotel currently being built on Raymond



Cook and the Bear will join the Kansas City style barbecue talents of Mr. McDonald,

with those of Millwright’s chef and co-owner and three time James Beard award semi-

finalist, Chef Tyler Anderson and his operations manager, A.J. Aurrichio, who also has

extensive experience in the restaurant industry.


Cook and the Bear will feature a menu that combines Mr. McDonald’s award winning pit

barbecue (rated “Excellent by the New York Times”) with the inspired New England fine

dining cuisine featured at Millwright’s, Simsbury’s premier fine dining establishment

(rated a “Do not miss” by the New York Times). This successful concept is already being

showcased on Monday nights at Millwright’s in Simsbury.


According to Chef Anderson, the concept will bring something new and exciting to West

Hartford while relying on classic techniques and staples: “Our goal is to create a unique

casual fine dining experience which marries our two styles.  We are excited to join the

already flourishing West Hartford restaurant scene.”  The duo will feature farm fresh

selections including locally sourced rotisserie chicken and an array of vegetarian options

like the pair’s hugely popular smoked beets.


According to the group’s attorney, Richard Rochlin, construction is set to begin in the

early spring with an opening expected for mid-summer.
