WIN A TRIP TO MENORCA WITH YOUR ORIGINAL MAHÓN CHEESE RECIPE!

One Chef's Mahón Cheese Recipe was his Ticket to Menorca, Spain


Chefs, sous chefs, and industry professionals from around the country entered their original recipes using Mahón cheese for a chance to win a trip to Menorca, Spain, and to the 9th Annual StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress to showcase their recipes.

Mahón is a unique cow’s milk cheese that boasts a sharp, salty taste that reflects the rural Mediterranean seascape. The rind is rubbed with either oil or paprika to give it a light yellow or bright orange color.

The beautiful island of Menorca touts the charm of a classic Spanish island, with its turquoise waters, unspoiled beaches, and rolling green hills. And since much of the island’s land is devoted to keeping its agricultural heritage alive, Menorca has maintained a strong relationship with its traditional cuisine—especially its cheese production.

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES

Deadline for Entry

All applications must be received by July 31, 2014. Final recipe submissions must be received no later than September 1, 2014.

Who Can Enter

Chefs, sous chefs, and industry professionals.

How to Enter

Contestants must submit an application to receive a complimentary sample variety pack of Mahón cheese. Only the first 50 entrants to apply will receive a sample. Contestants must then submit one (1) original recipe that highlights Mahón cheese in a creative way. Please include at least one high-resolution photo of the finished dish with recipe submission.

Judging

Representatives from StarChefs.com and from Foods from Spain/Trade Commission of Spain will choose a recipe based on creativity, use of Mahón cheese, and presentation.

Prizes

Three prizes total will be awarded, one grand prize winner and two finalists. All three winners will receive tickets to the 9th Annual StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress in New York City to showcase their winning dishes live at the Spain Pavilion. All three finalists will receive a $500 travel stipend. The grand prize winner will receive a trip to Menorca, Spain to meet the producers of Mahón cheese.

Winners will be notified by September 20, 2014.
