Sommelier Tanya McDonough of Ventuno - Biography
Sommelier Tanya McDonough started out working in restaurants while still in college. She developed an interest in wine during her time at Radius in Boston. Another restaurant she worked at wanted her to manage their wine program, but at the time she felt she was not qualified enough. When they offered to send her to the Boston University to study wine, McDonough jumped at the chance. She knew she wanted to explore beyond the world of bar tending. While at Grill 23, Alex DeWinter, who McDonough counts as one of her mentors, helped to further her interest in Italian wines in particular. On Nantucket island, McDonough says that the people who visit are very wine savvy and they really know their French and American wines and she enjoys presenting them with options that are new for their palette.
At Ventuno, her pairings are the prefect complement to Chef de Cuisine Andrea Solimeo’s Italian classics that make the best possible use of Nantucket’s local foodstuffs.
