Native to the Kohala Coast on Hawaii’s Big Island, Chef Peter Abarcar Jr. brings the flavors of his upbringing to visitors at Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Abarcar left the Big Island for Oahu to attend culinary school and work under Chef Alan Wong, a pioneer in regional Hawaiian cuisine. Abarcar came to Hapuna Beach’s Coast Grille as a cook in 1997, and after a stint at nearby Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, he returned to Coast Grille as chef de cuisine. In 2011, he became executive chef of the property’s four restaurants and catering operation. With more than two decades in the industry and a native’s intuition for local produce and seafood, Abarcar’s talents and Big Island regional fare are ideal to satisfy Hapuna Beach’s vistors, who want to experience a little piece of paradise, culinary and otherwise.
