Chef Pete Smithing of Delaware North at SunTrust Park - Biography

Pete Smithing has worked in restaurants since he was a teenager. But before diving headfirst into the industry, he studied Asian culture and ancient history at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating, Smithing headed straight to The Culinary Institute of America for classical training and earned his associate degree in 1999. He began his professional career in New York City in such restaurants as Le Cirque 2000, Aureole, and Morrell Wine Bar before landing the executive chef position at the iconic Hôtel Plaza Athénée. 

Hopping the Hudson to New Jersey, Smithing served as executive chef and wine director at Bacchus Chophouse and Wine Bar in Fairfield, and as executive chef and operations manager at Plainfield Country Club in Edison. In 2013, Smithing moving to Atlanta, where he was executive chef at the Atlanta Athletic Club and managed 52 employees, including 37 chefs and cooks.

In January 2017, Smithing joined Delaware North Sportservice’s culinary operation at the state-of-the-art SunTrust Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves. As executive chef, he oversees premium clubs, suites, concessions, and restaurants. Aside from spending time with his wife, Kate, and their three children, Smithing enjoys adding to and digging into his extensive cookbook collection, and cycling.
