Mixologist Paul Tanguay of The Tippling Bros. - Biography

In a career that’s spanned more than 25 years, with stops in multiple cities and countries, Paul Tanguay still says he got his start as a “kitchen rat.” Tanguay spent the better part of his career working in mom-and-pop restaurants, high-volume brasseries, burgeoning mini-chains, and corporate establishments, toiling in different positions and learning the ins and outs of the business.
Ultimately, Tanguay was drawn to the beverage aspect of said business. He earned his accreditation from the American Sommelier Association and worked to become one of the preeminent sake authorities in the United States. In March 2008, he completed the first English language sake sommelier certificate from the Sake Education Council, passing levels I and II.
Tanguay found a way to fuse his industry and beverage savvy when he met mixologist and alcohol aficionado Tad Carducci (the two were participants in the first ever B.A.R.—Beverage Alcohol Resource—program). The duo founded beverage the consultancy company Tippling Bros. in 2007, traveling, sitting on various judging panels, lecturing on all things alcoholic, and sharing their thirst and savvy in person and otherwise. Tanguay has been featured in national publications and has made several television appearances. Ever passionate for sake, Tanguay was the winner of the 2006 Eastern U.S. Sake Sommelier Competition and ranked among the top 10 at the 2006 World Sake Sommelier Competition in Tokyo, Japan. In 2010, he helped form the Sake Education Council; he currently sits on the board of directors as vice president and treasurer.
