Sommelier Patrick Cappiello of Pearl and Ash - Biography

You couldn’t tell by looking at him, but Patrick Cappiello has more than 25 years of experience in the restaurant industry, specifically that part of the industry that adores, obsesses about, and meticulously mulls over wines and wine lists.
Currently a sommelier and wine consultant based in New York City, Cappiello’s career has given him access to an incredible array of wines—and some incredible wine cellars. He’s worked at a variety of New York restaurants, including industry-leading, wine-focused restaurants like TriBeCa Grill, Veritas, and Gilt, where he served as beverage director. All three restaurants earned Wine Spectator “Grand Award” winners, and Cappiello has a tattoo of the magazine’s trademark three wine-glass logo on his left leg in commemoration. Cappiello was also nominated for Wine Enthusiast’s “Sommelier of the Year” in 2012.
Ever thirsty, Cappiello is now managing partner and wine director of Pearl & Ash, bringing one of the New York City’s strongest wine and food programs to the Lower East Side. Cappiello has been featured in The New York Times, Men’s Journal, The New York Post, Martha Stewart Magazine, and (frequently) Wine Spectator. An avid bicyclist, taco-lover, and video gamer, Cappiello is also the creator of the Renegade Wine Dinner series and serves as Chef Sommelier for Daniel Johnnes’s “La Paulée.”
