Mixologist Oliver Blackburn of The Gilbert Scott - Biography

London, UK

March 2012

Oliver Blackburn grew up in Nottingham, having lived briefly in North Lancashire. And while he might be a comparatively young man in the industry, Blackburn’s got nearly a decade of experience. He started working in hospitality over nine years ago at Opium, a Cantonese restaurant and cocktail Lounge in Nottingham's Lace Market. While studying Music Technology at college, Blackburn continue to work for Opium as Head Maitre’d.

From that already illustrious position, Blackburn (not yet 20) began working for World Service Restaurant, where he was promoted to Restaurant Manager after just twelve months. As fate would have it, the Bar Manager left, leaving Blackburn in a position to assume both restaurant and bar management duties. The clearly indefatigable Blackburn took the position of Bar Manager as an opportunity to extend his knowledge of wine and drinks, all the while discovering his passion for both molecular and classic mixology. After being approached about a position within the Marcus Wareing team for a new venture at The Gilbert Scott, Blackburn moved to London in 2011, where he currently oversees the list and continues to expand his beverage expertise.
